Colleen Class

The Colleen is a one-design wooden sailing keelboat originally designed for sailing in Dublin Bay.

It was designed for the Dublin Bay Sailing Club in 1896 by James E. Doyle, Dublin's leading yacht designer and builder.[1] The class stopped sailing in Dublin Bay in the early 1900's. After class racing finished in Dublin Bay many of the boats were shipped out to Argentina where the class thrived into the 1960's, until the boats got tired.

Yachting historian Hal Sisk built the replica "Colleen Bawn" in 2003 - in glass-reinforced plastic, but so as not to look like a plastic boat; easy to maintain, great to look at, and sailing beautifully.

When researching the Argentine side of the story last year he realised that there was an opportunity to have Colleens built out there for selling back home at a reasonable price. The first two production boats are nearing completion and will arrive in Ireland during the autumn 2008.
