HMAS Towoomba (FFH 156) is an Anzac class frigate of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

Construction

Toowoomba was laid down by Tenix Defence Systems at Williamstown, Victoria on 26 July 2002. She was launched on 16 May 2003 by Ms Judy Blight, and commissioned into the RAN on 8 October 2005.

Operational history

Towoomba hit a navigation marker off Gladstone in March 2006 and was repaired at Williamstown, Victoria.[citation needed]

Toowoomba began her first deployment to the Persian Gulf on 4 January 2007.[1]

On 29 May 2009, the Australian Government announced that the Australian Defence Force would contribute resources, including Toowoomba and RAAF AP-3C Orion patrol aircraft, to anti-piracy operations in the Gulf region.[citation needed]
