There were 35 Type T3-S2-A tankers built for the United States Maritime Commission to two designs:
- 30 of the T3-S2-A1 design
- 5 of the T3-S2-A2 design
All were acquired by the United States Navy as Cimarron-class oilers. Four of these ships were converted into Sangamon-class escort carriers. A further eight were enlarged (or "jumboized" in U.S. Navy parlance) and became Ashtabula-class oilers
