AWM Caption: Singapore. 1942-02-05. Starboard side view of the extensively damaged British transport the Empress of Asia and Navy rescue vessels. The transport was set on fire during a bomb attack by Japanese aircraft. It was one of four ships bringing the remainder of the 18th British Division, some other troops, and transport vehicles to the island. Most of the troops were rescued by the Navy, but nearly all their weapons and equipment were lost. (Donor M. Parkin)
