The Océan was an ironclad of the French Navy, lead ship of her class.

Océan was commissioned on 15 July 1870, four days before the Franco-Prussian War broke out. From September, she was stationed in the Northern Sea.

In June 1871, she reintegrated the escadre d'évolution.

In 1878, Océan undertook a refit and modernisation in Brest.

From 1891, she was used as a school ship, before being broken up in 1895.
