Island Yacht Club
Island Yacht Club is one of three clubs on Toronto Islands in Toronto, Canada.
The club is located on Mugg's Island, on the western part of the Toronto Islands. It is a yachting and social club. Its facilities include a newly built clubhouse, with a dining room, bar, snack bar and lounge. It also includes men's and woman's locker rooms equipped with showers and lockers. The club also contains a garden, pool, tennis courts and a safe yard for winter storage. The Yacht Club offers a Junior Sailing Club where children can learn to sail and an Adult Learn to Sail program, both taught by professional sailors.
History
The club was founded in 1956 and trained a number of Olympians. The club caught on fire and exploded in 2004 when some children ignited propane tanks (http://www.toronto.ca/fire/annual_report/pdf/tfs_2004_annual_report.pdf).
