The Gretna ferry landing seen from the ferry

The Jackson Avenue-Gretna Ferry is a ferry across the Mississippi River in the U.S. state of Louisiana, connecting Jackson Avenue in New Orleans with Huey P. Long Avenue in Gretna. It carries automobiles for $1.00; bicycles and pedestrians for free. The Crescent City Connection Division of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development operates the ferry on weekdays from 06:00 to 20:45.

At one time, the ferry carried Louisiana Highway 23.[1]

As of September 28, 2009 the Gretna Ferry's east bank landing shifted from Jackson Avenue to Canal Street. The Gretna Ferry will normally carry cars one-way from Gretna to Canal Street. No cars will be carried to Gretna because the landing cannot accommodate vehicles waiting for both the Gretna and Algiers ferries.
