Mad Dog (oil platform)
From SpottingWorld, the Hub for the SpottingWorld network...
Mad Dog is the name of a SPAR oil platform operated by BP in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana. It became operational in 2005, and is one of a new breed of oil drilling platforms that tap oil reserves deep beneath offshore waters.
The field generally produces 110,000 barrels (17,000 m3) of oil per day and 60 million cubic feet (1,700,000 m3) of gas per day.[citation needed]
It was reported on September 16, 2008 that Mad Dog was damaged due to Hurricane Ike. The drilling derrick was toppled over and was on the sea bed.
