Oyster schooners are a type of fishing vessel specifically designed for the harvesting of oysters. Oyster Schooners were very prominent in the past in the Delaware Bay until a blight killed off most of the oysters in that area. Typically, an oyster schooner was a gaff-rigged two-masted sailing ship akin to the Dorchester schooner. One surviving example of an Oyster schooner is the A.J. Meerwald located in Bivalve, New Jersey.
